Fabulously Faux Facelift: What Dermal Fillers Can Do For You

Health & Medical Blog

In an age of constant and endemic photoshopping, it can be super discouraging to look at the models in magazines and feel like you look 20 years older than them, even if the difference is actually more like 5 years. But how can you look more youthful and less careworn without going under the knife of plastic surgery? The answer is a simple one, used by many celebrities and soccer moms alike: dermal fillers. So if you're determined to look younger and are wondering what dermal fillers can do for you, then here's what you need to know.

Lessen Wrinkles

If you're noticing some crow's feet here and a few laugh lines there, don't worry – these fine lines are what dermal fillers are best at hiding. Dermal fillers can target the problem areas and smooth out the skin, hiding those marks besides your eyes and lips and on your forehead that are usually the first markers of age to show up. These fillers only take about half an hour to take effect, making them a great choice if your family decides to schedule an impromptu photo session out of the blue.

Pump Up Lips

One of the most noticible parts of getting older is the fact that your lips seem to get flatter and flatter every year, losing the luster and fullness they had while you were in your youth. Luckily, dermal fillers can help here as well, filling back out your lips to their previous size (or just a bit bigger, if you want a more Angelina Jolie–esque look), thus getting rid of the wrinkles that came when your lips deflated a bit. And if you misjudge the size your lips should be (whether too big or too small), don't worry – dermal fillers only last about a third of a year on average, meaning that you only have 4 months to get through before you can get them redone correctly,

Restore Volume

As humans get older, their skin seems to get too big for their face – but really, all that's happening is that you're losing volume in your face, and the skin thus has less to cover. Dermal fillers can help to fill in those parts that have lost their volume, making your skin stretch tightly over your face again and getting rid of any appearances of sagging. While, once again, this effect is not permanent, it is easy enough to get redone once the fillers dissolve and can immediately shave years (or even a decade) off your appearance.

Take Your Health Into Your Own Hands

My name is Katie Langer. For a long time, I was bed ridden and I felt like I had no control over my life. I simply went along with what was instructed by my doctor and I didn't ask questions. It wasn't that my doctor wasn't willing to work with me, but I preferred to simply not think about the illness I was suffering from. I didn't realize that some of the symptoms I was suffering from were side effects of my medication and were not normal. After communicating more with my doctor, I was able to alleviate my symptoms. Since then, I've taken an interest in patient-doctor relationships and how to improve them.
